It had to go right down to the wire, but Eusoff Hall managed to emerge as the new Inter-Hall Games 07/08 champion.

They were crowned overall winners on Feb. 22 after fending off a strong challenge by defending champions Temasek Hall in the final event of the season.

The track and field event was Temasek Hall’s last chance to catch up with the leader but they could only amass a disappointing eight points, as compared to Eusoff Hall’s nine.

This resulted in Eusoff Hall finishing the season with 105 points, against Temasek Hall’s 103.

Although Kent Ridge Hall won the track and field event with 12 points, it was not enough for them as they finished third with 95 points.

Eusoff Hall sports secretary, Shawn Tan, said this victory was “especially sweet” for them as they lost the title to Temasek Hall in the previous season.

Tan said, “Last season, we were on par with Temasek in terms of the number of points scored but we lost out on gold difference.

“We really wanted to win this time round.”

Tan added that the higher level of competition between the halls this time also made the victory even more satisfactory.

“The increase in the competitive standards meant that there were no longer any favourites and we managed to win even though we had lesser gold medals as compared to Temasek.

“We are very happy to be able to seal up the title,” he said

Eusoff Hall managed two gold medals compared to Temasek Hall’s four, but it was the higher level of consistency displayed by the new champions that tilted the balance in their favour.

They maintained within the top three positions for the majority of the two-month long season. Consistency was key in helping them win their second IHG title in three years.

Despite surrendering the title to their main rivals, Temasek Hall sport secretary, Koh Hong Yi, was gracious in defeat.

“Eusoff Hall suffered some minor slip-ups during the season and we thought they were unable to win this year,” he said. “So credit to them for bouncing back to win the title.”

Koh also paid tribute to his athletes.

“I’m very proud for what they have achieved and looking forward to next year, we definitely have the potential to challenge for the title,” he said.

Sheares Hall finished fourth, followed by King Edward VII Hall and Raffles Hall respectively.
