Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene performed at the Esplanade on March 09 as part of the Mosaic music festival. The Observer documents this high-octane experimental indie rock band and the energy emanated from the auditory fusion.

An explosive start: Despite groans from the audience when only six out of the 19 members of the band showed up on stage, the energy from opening act got them out of their seats.

Most Versatile Performer: Andrew Whiteman stole the show with his dancing, guitar skills and emotive solo rendition of “Looks Just Like the Sun.”

Musical potpourri: Saxophonists, trumpeters and vocals from other performers taking part in the mosaic festival were invited onto the stage to beef up the already stimulating acoustics.

An electro serenade: Founding member Brendan Canning at work on the organs

A temporary retreat: The band leaves for a short break with smiles on their faces.

Break from the drums: Justin Peroff remained on stage to look at photos he took of the crowd while his band members left for backstage.

All psyched up: Whiteman still can’t get enough of the music.

Pulsating vibes: Kevin Drew stirred the crowd by performing the last act while standing amongst the audience.

Of men and curtsies: Rumour has it that they will be back for more.
