The National University of Singapore’s senate has given the thumbs-up for the new Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory policy.
National University of Singapore Students’ Union president, Donald Koh, told The Observer on Oct. 08 the union received information that the senate approved the passing of the new S/U policy.
“We have confirmation that the senate has approved it (the new S/U policy),” said Koh.
Three weeks ago, the final proposal containing recommendations made by NUSSU was sent to the senate for approval. The union has been appealing to the university administration regarding the S/U option since late August. After the lapse of three weeks since the last update of the appeal process, students have been waiting in anticipation for news regarding the policy. Chia Jialin, a senior in the faculty of arts and social sciences was elated that the new policy has been approved. “I am so glad that they finally made their final verdict,” said Chia. According to an e-mail circular sent by Tay E Teng, former NUSSU president, the new policy would allow all undergraduates to exercise their S/U options after they have obtained final grades for their modules. Under the proposed policy, seniors would be given a one-off opportunity to see the grades of the modules for which they exercised the S/U option under the old policy and retract the ‘S’ or ‘U’ to use for current modules. However, seniors would not be allowed to replace the grade received on modules previously taken with an ‘S’ or ‘U’. It is still unknown if there were any changes made to NUSSU’s proposed change in policy by the senate. Koh said the details of the approval would possibly be revealed to the student body at a later date through e-mail. “We will list the full details (of the new policy), tomorrow or Wednesday,” said Koh. |
